I know I’m not the only who experiences the slightest tingle in their throat or the tiniest drip from their nose or the smallest of coughs and immediately thinks COVID-19.
The current pandemic situation has us all over analyzing our symptoms.
A few months back, before any irrational fear over a tingle in my throat threatened me, I discovered a fabulous recipe that will give your immune system the kick it needs right now.
My kids were sick for several weeks at the end of February. It’s hard to be a caretaker for them without contracting whatever they’ve been graciously given by friends and playmates.
But this round, mommy had a very powerful weapon on her immune systems side and she wasn’t afraid to use it. Repeatedly. So much so that I have developed a genuine “like” for the flavors of this intimidating drink.
The recipe comes from Barbara O’Neill, an Australian naturopath and lecturer.
The ingredients of this immune boosting, germ-killing concoction might scare you. Just know that the minute this firewater hits your system any internal malefactors are so much more afraid than your taste buds could ever be. This stuff works.
So. The ingredients please…
- 1 or more cloves of garlic
- ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
- ¼ teaspoon chopped ginger
- ½ drops of tea tree oil
- juice of a lemon
- 1 teaspoon honey
Make sure and mince the garlic into small pieces and it helps to grate the ginger. The smaller you can get these two ingredients the easier it is to swallow them down. The first few times I made this I did not have the tea tree oil on hand and found it did not impair its effectiveness.
Mix up all these taste bud exploding ingredients into 1 cup of warm water. Drink 2-3 times a day for the first day. After that, take as needed.
As I have previously stated, I kind of like the taste of this firewater.
My personal preference is to mix it into hot water and enjoy more like tea. I find that the heat of the water somewhat plays over the heat from the cayenne making it less startling.
I will mention that I have gotten my girls to drink it. The first few times I gave them a little less of the garlic and cayenne and the youngest was dumping honey into by the tablespoon BUT she did get it down! I was super impressed!
It became kind of a fun family event where we’d make up 4 glasses and drink it together for support and for the hilarity of everyone’s reactions. Family bonding and
health all in one!
So there you have your secret weapon for this super bug as well any others that might cross your path.
Next time you get the tingle, the drip or the unexpected cough, stop everything and make some Flu Bomb! Remind yourself that being sick is WAY worse than this stuff tastes…. although it might take some convincing!
