Today we are going to look at how easy it is to create a mini capsule wardrobe for winter.
I have never succeeded in narrowing my entire wardrobe into the strict rules of a capsule. But I do have what I call mini capsules; today we will be looking at a Winter Capsule Wardrobe.
These are pieces that I mix and match with ease and are my comfortable stay-at-home-mom uniform.
What is a Capsule Wardrobe?
According to Wikipedia, “The term has come to refer to a collection of clothing that is composed of interchangeable items only, to maximize the number of outfits that can be created.”
A capsule wardrobe also needs a set of specific neutrals and accent colors that you are working with. This is what makes it so interchangeable!
I separate my Winter Capsule Wardrobe into these basic components:
Skirts
Tops
Layers
Shoes
Accessories
Coat
Since this is my stay-at-home-mom uniform, I am aiming for comfort, flexibility with the underlying thought that if I should need to run an errand I am all set to go!
Here is a picture of the complete capsule, in layout style so you get a complete picture to start with.
The color scheme is Black and Gray for my neutrals. Pine Green and Plum for my accents. And denim is just denim. Let’s not overthink this!
Now, let’s break it apart, starting with…
Skirts
Pictured here are my two Snogas, in the basic go with everything colors of black and grey. When I tire of the Snogas, there is a long denim skirt that is in heavy rotation and a new addition, a pine green corduroy skirt.
Tops
Long sleeve t-shirts are something I love. They are soft, they layer easily, and come in so many colors.
For the days you want something “extra”, two patterned tops.
Layers
Next up, the long cardigans that I layer over them. Layering always makes me feel like I’m wearing something “nice” and it’s obviously warmer.
Shoes
I included 3 options for shoes because what you wear on your feet can make a big difference in your day and the weather fluctuates.
*Side note, I likely wouldn’t wear these particular tennis shoes with either of the long skirts. Thought that was worth mentioning!
Accessories
I personally don’t wear jewelry besides my wedding ring. But wintertime means I get to wear scarves and this makes me happy!
Here are a few basic scarves you can toss into the capsule that really changes things up!
Coat
Since this capsule is for winter, you should have a coat that finishes off whatever look you’ve put together.
This gray coat goes with EVERYTHING and is warm!
Here are a few pictures that show what some of these outfits can look like pulled together.
So There you have it! A mini capsule wardrobe pulled right out of my closet! I counted at least 15 outfit combinations that could be made from these 17 items. I am sure there are MANY more.
